The Republican candidate in a special election to fill an unexpectedly contested seat in a conservative Mississippi congressional district is using recent controversies surrounding Senator Barack Obama to tar his Democratic rival.A television ad from Southaven Mayor Greg Davis tells viewers that his Democratic rival, Travis Childers, a realtor and Prentiss County official, has accepted the endorsement of "liberal Barack Obama."
Then, with Childers' face beside footage of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, it says, "When Obama's pastor cursed America, blaming us for 9/11, Childers said nothing."
Then: "When Obama ridiculed rural folks for clinging to guns and religion, Childers said nothing."
"He took Obama's endorsement over our conservative values. Conservatives just can't trust Travis Childers," the ad concludes.
Unlike a much-reported North Carolina Republican ad attacking Obama, the Mississippi spot is actually airing on television.

14 News was the first to report Thursday night about a possible threat against Hillary Clinton by a Tri-State man. Friday Senator Clinton responded in a exclusive interview with 14 News. That allegeded threat was made on the website Facebook by a USI student very vocal in his support for Barack Obama. He even has a picture standing next to Senator Obama on his webpage.
But it's a comment that police say he made on that page, that might have gone a little too far.
Reporter Brandon Bartlett: "If you saw this online, would it be a red flag to you?
Detective Kurt Pritchett: "I would want to go speak to the author, yes."
Detective Pritchett has traveled around the world investigating internet threats. "Nationwide, internetwide, you don't see a lot of this," says Pritchett, "It is something that should not be there."
According to an incident report filed with the Evansville Police Department the comment reads: "Make sure Hillary avoids the sniper fire next time she comes to Evansville."
Det. Pritchett says, "If it is a threat, yes, it is very unwise. If it is something that eludes to a previous comment, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put that previous comment in there, so that you're not accused of yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre."
Even if the comment is making fun of Senator Clinton's much publicized sniper episode in Bosnia, the EPD is taking no chances alerting its officers.
In an exclusive interview Friday with 14 News, Anchor Ann Komis asked Senator Clinton about the possible threat. Senator Hillary Clinton, speaking about the comment, says, "Well, I have the utmost confidence in the secret service and they've done a wonderful job taking care of me for a lot of years. So, I really don't think about it. I don't worry about it."
Senator Clinton also said she will be back in Evansville before May 6th, that means the secret service will be alerted to this comment. And the young man who posted it, will be closely watched.
Det. Kurt Pritchett says, "There will be an investigation into it."
